I absolutely love outdoor maternity sessions. When you think of a maternity session, you even most likely think you would of course do it outside! But the truth is that in-home maternity sessions are absolutely beautiful and can even be more intimate in the comfort of your own home. If you are in your third trimester during the winter months and don't want to freeze outside for a maternity session, consider doing it indoor!
There is something so special about an indoor maternity session — the calm, the intimacy, and the chance to capture love in its most natural, comfortable setting. No matter the season, these sessions feel timeless. Pair that cozy atmosphere with soft window light and a glowing mama-to-be, and it’s pure magic. Those window photos can be some of the most incredibly stunning photos you have ever seen. They are often clients favorites!
When Danelle told me she wanted to do an indoor maternity shoot and sent over her inspo pics I was way to excited because everything she sent was a maternity shoot out of my dreams. We planned the session around the soft morning light that poured into their living room, creating the dreamiest glow. From the delicate details, like the incredible woodland-themed nursery where Danelle’s dad hand-painted an incredible mural on the wall next to his crib (literally insanely beautiful) — to the quiet moments between Danelle and Joseph, every image told a story of anticipation and love.
Danelle wore a gorgeous cropped knit sweater with jeans and Joseph matched her simple, neutral style and it gave such a low-key, natural mood for the session. The neutral tones paired perfectly with the natural light, giving the images a soft, airy feel that I absolutelyyyyy love.
One of my favorite parts of indoor maternity sessions is how personal they are. Every corner holds meaning — the space where they’ll bring their baby home, the couch where they dream together about what’s to come. These photos aren’t just portraits; they’re a reflection of home, comfort, and connection. It is also so fun to re-do photos & poses before & after the baby comes!
