THE BEAUTY OF DOCUMENTING THE SEASON BEFORE BABY ARRIVES


I remember it like it was just yesterday! Being pregnant with your first child is something you will never forget. Your first experience being pregnant and meeting the child who made you a mom. It's the beginning of a completely new chapter of your life. A season where you are becoming someone new and learning to love someone you haven't even met yet. And the most exciting of all, waiting for the moment you finally get to hold your baby in your arms.


But as beautiful as it is... Just like anything in life, it can be so easy to forget.


Here are a few reasons I believe this season is worth documenting:


Documenting the season before you became a family of three


It is just the two of you for now but everything is about to change.


There's anticipation. There's excitement. There's wondering. Who will the baby look like? What will their name be? Who will they be like?





Remembering the woman you were before becoming a mom


Your first pregnancy marks the beginning of so much more than motherhood. It's the beginning of a new version of you! Your body is changing, your priorities are changing and your heart is already room for someone you've never met. A maternity session gives you the opportunity to document that woman. The woman who life is about to change in the most meaningful way.



Giving your baby a glimpse into their beginning


One day, your child will be able to look at these photographs and see the time when they were still waiting to meet you. They'll see the belly they once grew inside. They'll see their parents before they became a family of three. They'll see how loved and anticipated they were before they ever entered the world.

I think there is something really beautiful about giving them that piece of their story.



To remember the love that was already there.


Before you become Mom & Dad... It's just you two. That's how it started.


Your baby may have been the reason you are taking the photos, but your maternity session is also about the two of you and how your love has grown even stronger as you expect your first child.



Because of how quickly it goes (I know this very well...)


This couples maternity session in Morris County, New Jersey was for two soon-to-be parents expecting their firstborn. The anticipation was so sweet to witness.


Every time I photograph a couple expecting their first baby, it is a little nostalgic for me. I remember being in that season myself. I remember the excitement of knowing your entire world was about to change and wondering what it would feel like to finally meet the little person you've been waiting for.


You never forget it.


I think that is part of why I am so passionate about maternity sessions and why I love capturing this season so much. I know how meaningful it is.


I know how fast it flies by.


Before you know it your baby will be here. You'll be holding them instead of holding your belly. Your days will look completely different.


But you'll have photographs to take you back to the beginning.


And I think that is the beauty of documenting the season before baby arrives.
